Modem Setup - Authorizer
KBA-01417
Summary

To set up the modem for the Authorizer software to dial, go into the SETUP/COMMUNICATIONS screen. If the Com Port is unknown, use the PORT SEARCH function. After the modem port is found, select the correct port under Manual Modem Setup. If the modem found is one of the models in the modem list within the software, select that modem name from the list. Selecting a modem name from the list in the software fills in a modem initilization string for the program to use (Note: The ATDT command is hard coaded in the software and does not show in the modem initilization string field.).

If the modem is not one of the models in the list, select the first HAYES model and try a test transaction. If that string fails proceed on down the list of HAYES models.

LT WIN modems are typically successful with the first AT&T selection. The USR 56K Data/Fax with a USB connection are typically successful with the USR Courier setting in the software.

If no modem is found during the port search, make sure that there are no fax programs, communication software or internet connections open on the computer.

If the port search seems to stall on one particular port and does not come back with a port search result, end task on the port search to free up the program. This is most often caused by a USB device such as a printer having the port tied up and not allowing anything else to connect to the com port.

In most cases, the WINDOWS MODEM SETUP will not make the modem connect correctly with the processing company.

Additional Comments
If there is a modem that will process successfully in another credit card processing software application (such as PCCharge), but not in Authorizer, copy the string into the OTHER init string field for Authorizer. Be sure to remove the ATDT command (and any other commands that instructs the modem to start dialing).
